Our role with Salem-News.com has brought honors in the past; however this weekend in Baltimore was the scene of the most significant event of our professional lives.

I was asked to be the key note speaker at the FeTNA (Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America) Conference in Baltimore, it is the largest gathering of North American Tamils held each year and this was a special 25th Anniversary Jubilee Event. [Salem-News]

Sri Lanka air force personnel who had completed part of their technical training at Air Force Station, Tambaram, Chennai were taken off the course and sent to Bangalore after Ms Jayalalitha, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, raised a hue and cry over their presence in Tamil Nadu.

The irrepressible chief minister will no doubt count this as a small victory in her ongoing political confrontation with her bête noir M Karunanidhi of the Dravida Munnetrda Kazagham, a favoured partner of the ruling coalition in New Delhi. [DBSJ]

Monday July 2nd 2012 was a red letter day in the life of Subramaniam Sivakamy alias Thamilini. The 40 year old former women’s division political chief of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)formally began her period of rehabilitation on that day at the Protective Accommodation and Rehabilitation Centre (PARC)in Poonthottam, Vavuniya.
