The Canadian Tamil Congress issued a statement yesterday thanking the United States for bringing a Resolution on Sri Lanka at the 22nd session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The statement said, “We would also like to thank the USA for their efforts in bringing this resolution forward and the Canadian mission for playing an important role in Geneva. We remain hopeful that the text of the resolution will be further strengthened with the support of all member states so as to ensure justice and accountability for the people of Sri Lanka”.
The Canadian Tamil Congress also reiterated its continued position that, “what Sri Lanka needs is an independent international investigation into alleged violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law by both sides”, in the statement.
