Tamils of San Francisco Bay Area held a rally on March 19th near the Consulate of India, raising awareness and issues relating to the upcoming vote at United National Human Rights Council on Sri Lanka.
Despite being a normal working day, several Tamils participated in this rally that was hurriedly announced at short notice, the organizers said.
The rally goers participated with slogans such as, “We support Tamil Nadu Students”, “INDIA – Support Human Rights”, “INDIA – Save the Tamils” and “INDIA – Don’t Dilute US Resolutions”.
A Media release about the event said that, participants from The World Tamil Organization met with the Consul General of India and handed over an “appeal consisting of measures the Government of India to take regarding the plight of Tamils living under the tyrannical and fascist governance of Sri Lanka and the upcoming UNHRC Resolution”.
Expressing solidarity with students in Tamil Nadu the rally goers also pledged the participants’ resolve for an “Independent Tamil Eelam”, by wishing everyone “We shall meet next year in Tamil Eelam”.
“We are confident of the success of the student rallies in Tamil Nadu”, the rally goers affirmed.
Earlier in a letter addressed to the Students of Tamil Nadu the WTO thanked and commended the “leaders in Tamil Nadu as well as other parts of India for the positive steps they have taken in demanding the Indian Government to support a strong resolution at the 22nd sessions of UNHRC” and appreciated “the justified demands put forth by students of many educational institutions in Tamil Nadu on behalf of our Tamil kith and kin”.
