Dear Students,
World Thamil Organization, Inc. (WTO) is a Registered, Non-Profit organization, incorporated in the United States of America. Since its inception in 1991, WTO has been espousing the cause of Tamils wherever they live. The Tamil people, like any other people in the world, have their inalienable rights and freedom to live with dignity and protection for their lives and properties, as envisaged in the United Nations Charter.
The members of WTO and the undersigned organizations expresses our sincere thanks to all of you for the sacrifice you have been making to highlight the genocide of Tamils by the apartheid, fascist Sinhala Sri Lankan government. It gives us great pleasure to embrace and support the historic struggle that you have undertaken to seek justice and dignity for the Tamil people of Sri Lanka. We admire you for choosing the path of non-violent civil disobedience as your means of struggle.
It is pertinent that the High Commissioner Ms. Navi Pillay on her report to the UN Human Rights Council dated February 11 has clearly and unambiguously called for an ‘Independent, credible International Investigation’ for the mass atrocities committed against Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka.
Hence, we request that you insist that the Government of India propose an amendment to the US sponsored resolution at the 22nd session of UNHRC to appoint an independent international Commission of Inquiry (COI) under UN. You may also request that Government of Tamil Nadu to send an all-party delegation without delay to the UNHRC session to plead the case for a COI.
The only solution for the Tamil national problem in Lanka lies in creating an independent, sovereign Tamil Eelam. The Tamils, based on the right of self- determination recognized by the United Nations Charter and other Conventions, have every right to regain and restore the sovereignty they lost and reconstitute the Nation of TAMIL EELAM in their ancestral homeland in the North East of Lanka where they have been historically living for thousands of years.
We salute your democratic non-violent struggle and stand in solidarity with you. With care and concern, we also emphasize that your lives, education and health are paramount to the success of the struggle and wish you well.
