Full Text of Press Release:
The Canadian Tamils’ Chamber of Commerce (CTCC) will mark the launch of the Database project with the release of its first report “Emergence of the Tamil Community in the GTA – Facts & Figures” on Wednesday March 8, 2006.
The Symposium will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Markham, 7095 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, Ontario starting at 7:00PM. It will be attended by prominent politicians, community leaders, businessmen, professionals and CTCC members.
CTCC has launched an ambitious and important initiative that will bring the Tamil business community to the forefront. This report is the first in a series of initiatives that the CTCC has planned to undertake to disseminate information about the Tamil community. It provides a snap shot of the Tamil community in the GTA including facts and figures about the community, the tremendous growth of the business community in the last 10 years and potential opportunities for further development and growth.
“The Canadian Tamils’ Chamber of Commerce’s pledge to provide its stakeholders and the Tamil community with a Canadian Tamils Database by December 2007 has taken a major step forward”, President Logan Velumailum of CTCC announced today.
“The main purpose of this Symposium is to create awareness among Canadians about this initiative and to outline the strategy for its implementation. Further, this event serves as a platform to promote the importance of Tamil community’s participation in the Census 2006, a joint initiative we’ve undertaken in partnership with Statistics Canada” he continued.
“The launch event is a stepping stone towards our goal of brining the Tamil business community to the forefront. Our goal is to provide up-to-date, cost efficient and accurate information about the Canadian Tamil community, which will highlight the tremendous opportunities available to work with the community. I am confident that we will meet this goal by the end of 2007” said Mr. Velumailum.
Through this initiative, CTCC’s aim is to draw the attention of the Canadian society, government and businesses to the strengths and opportunities within the Tamil community. Further, this will serve as a valuable tool to continuously measure the growth of the Tamil community.
This initiative entails building a comprehensive database of information on the Tamil community. This will be an invaluable asset to entrepreneurs, community members, organizations, policy makers and the different levels of government. This is a longer term initiative that will be implemented over the next 2 years and will then be continuously updated and enhanced.
Established in 1991, CTCC is a voluntary, non-political, and not-for profit organization aimed at developing successful businesses and entrepreneurship in the Tamil community in Canada, and at promoting charitableness and volunteerism in the community.
