Anton Balasingham’s death anniversary observed

Second death anniversary of Anton Balsingham, theoretician and chief negotiator of LTTE was observed in several parts of the Jaffna peninsula, according to a report on Virakesari, on Dec 16, 2008.

Events in memory of Anton Balasingham were held at the Jaffna University and several private educational institutions. Posters paying tribute to him appeared in several places including Thenmaradchi areas of Sarasalai, Madduvil and in Vadamaradchi areas of Nelliyadi and Point Pedro. Anton Balasingham (March 4, 1938 – December 14, 2006)

Among the Attendees at the funeral services of Mr. Anton balasingham on Dec 20, 2006 was Norwegian Minister for International Development, Erik Solheim.

Hon. Minister Erik Solheim said, “Anton Balasingham strove for truth, always spoke the truth and has never lied for any reason whatsoever.”

Solheim further said, “He was one of the very few in the Sri Lanka peace process who has not lied to me. He wanted the peace process to be a success. He believed that an everlasting solution will have to be on the Olso agreement which is a federal solution”.
