LTTE releases pictures and Sri Lanka admits to casualties in Vavunikkulam
Tamil Daily Virakesari reported today on its website of Sri Lanka Defence Ministry admitting to casualties of soldiers at the Vanni front for the first time as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) showed stiff resistance in Vavunikkulam.
Sri Lankan forces attempted to advance North from Vavunikkulam, towards Thunnukkai and Mallavai. Intense fight raged on Friday Aug 1st and Sri Lanka Defence Ministry has reported deaths of 11 soldiers and 9 LTTE fighters, the report on Virakesari said.
LTTE has said 30 Sri Lankan soldiers dead without providing details on their casualties, and LTTE released pictures from the Vavunikkulam front on Saturday Aug 2nd:
